At least 19 students were injured along with a security guard after a teenager armed with knives went on a rampage at a high school in the US State of Pennsylvania.
Dan Stevens, deputy emergency management coordinator for the Westmoreland County told reporters that the suspected attacker who is a 16-year-old student was in police custody.
Stevens said the victims are aged 14 to 17 and they were attacked in “numerous classrooms and hallways” of the school.
A spokesman for Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville Pennsylvania, Jesse Miller told Reuters that three of the patients were in surgery and all eight were listed in critical condition.
Chris Kauffman, director of trauma at Forbes Regional Hospital said all three undergoing surgery had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen.
The main motive behind the incident and identity of the assailant were not disclosed, Murrysville police Chief Thomas Seefeld quoted by Associated Press said they’re looking into reports of a threatening phone call between the suspect and another student the night before.
